About Me
I am a licensed clinical psychologist PSY 25319 (CA); PS 017176 (PA). I attended the University of Pennsylvania as an undergraduate and attained my graduate degrees in clinical psychology from Columbia University in New York City. While at Columbia, I worked at the college counseling center at New York University. I did my clinical internship at Friends Hospital, a private in-patient psychiatric hospital in Philadelphia, and my post-doctoral training in a private practice in Philadelphia, Alternative Choices, specializing in helping families live with autism-related diagnoses. I am also a volunteer clinical faculty at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, families and couples with various life circumstances. I have experience helping individuals of all ages through many of life's adjustments including grief, loss, trauma, eating disorders, anxiety, Asperger Syndrome/high functioning autism and depression. I truly enjoy my work and look forward to helping you begin to feel better!
Treatment Philosophy
Psychotherapy is a powerful journey that will hopefully lead you to make some adjustments to your life that will help you develop better interpersonal relationships, find better or alternative solutions to specific problems, help you find new ways to reduce distress and develop new ways to soothe, nurture and take care of yourself. This journey requires a desire on your part to look at things, explore, and understand what is hurting emotionally and have a desire to change it.
I offer a personalized, highly-trained approach to psychotherapy. My work is characterized by intuition, compassion, optimism and collaboration. I pride myself on being approachable and try to be straightforward and encouraging. I help people recognize the areas of their lives in which they feel stuck, and work toward achieving their own definition of success. I work with individuals, couples, families and adolescents who are struggling with various life's difficulties. My personal specialties include relationship issues, parenting skills, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, self-esteem issues, Asperger Syndrome, trauma and women's issues. I also have expertise in helping individuals cope with issues of acculturation, and have conducted original research on the culturally determined communication styles of immigrants. I incorporate a holistic, individualized approach to each treatment, and strongly believe that psychotherapy can aid in self-actualization in the physical, relational and professional areas of one's life.
Since psychotherapy is a collaboration between you and your therapist, one of the most important determinants of a successful treatment is how comfortable you feel with your therapist, hence I encourage you to find the professional with whom you feel the most comfort and ease.
